God’s Grace
“For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on a promise; but God in his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise.” Galatians 3:18
Have you read about Harvey Penick? His first book, Harvey Penick’s Little Red Book, became a surprising best-seller, selling more than 1 million copies in 1992, quickly earning the title of the best-selling sports book of all time.
Interestingly, by the time Harvey first showed his notes to a local writer, he was nearly 90 years old. Harvey wanted to know if the book was worth publishing. The writer read it and told him he liked the book. In fact, by the next evening, the same man left word with Harvey’s wife that Simon & Schuster Publishing Company had agreed to an advance of $90,000.
When the writer saw Harvey later, the old man seemed troubled. Finally, Harvey came clean. He confided in the writer that with all his medical bills, there was no way he could advance Simon & Schuster that much money. It took a while, but finally, the writer convinced Harvey that the publisher would pay him the $90,000 and not the other way around!
What a joy to realize that instead of needing to pay God an enormous bill for sins already committed, God has decided to give us the priceless gift of grace – our sins are already paid for, in full.
We were all enslaved to sin. But with God’s grace, we can be free.
Thank Jesus for His death on the Cross and that He is with you and continually gives grace to you.
No one is safe by his own strength, but we are saved by the grace and mercy of God.
“For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” John 1:17
