The Sin Of Stubbornness
“But they will reply, `It’s no use. We will continue with our own plans; each of us will follow the stubbornness of his evil heart.'” Jeremiah 18:12
In 1986, two Soviet ships collided in the Black Sea when the Admiral Nakhimov, a passenger liner, and the freighter Pyotr Vasev struck each other. Some 400 passengers died as they were hurled into the icy waters below.
News of the disaster was further darkened when an investigation revealed the cause of the accident.
It wasn’t a technology problem like radar malfunction–or even thick fog. The cause was human stubbornness.
Each captain was aware of the other ship’s presence nearby. Both could have steered clear, but according to news reports, neither captain wanted to give way to the other. Each was too proud to yield first. By the time they came to their senses, it was too late. The authorities also said that both vessels’ captains knew for 45 minutes that they were on a collision course but ignored warnings.
The Lord hates man’s stubbornness.
If you are stubborn, acknowledge the sin and turn away from it.
“When you are full of pride on the inside, it makes you stiff, stubborn, and creates strife with others.” – John C. Maxwell
“one who, when he hears the words of this sworn covenant, blesses himself in his heart, saying, ‘I shall be safe, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart.’ This will lead to the sweeping away of moist and dry alike.” – Deuteronomy 29:19
