Fix Your Thoughts
“Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.” Hebrews 3:1
How do we fix our eyes and thoughts on Jesus with everything happening around us?
We must be intentional and think about the things of heaven, “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Philippians 4:8.
Instead of constantly looking at the distractions of life and what is happening among us, we must choose to look up and ix our eyes and thoughts on Him in the midst of chaos.
We see a perfect example of this in Matthew 14:22-33 when Peter walks on the water to Jesus. When Peter is focused on Jesus, he is able to stay above the water, but the moment he takes his eyes off of Jesus, he falls.
We all take our eyes off Him occasionally, but His loving grace does not give up on us or leave us to drown.
Instead, even when we look away, He is faithful in reaching out to us and pulling us back up.
In this life, we can work on keeping our thoughts on Him more than we did the day before. Here are some practical ways to keep your thoughts on Him.
Read the Bible every day – Let His Word dwell richly in you. Colossians 3:16.
Pray, rejoice, and thank Him every day. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.
Worship – He is always worthy.Psalm 150:6.
Take every thought captive – When you have thoughts to look at your circumstances or the circumstances of the world instead of Him, take them captive and put your focus back on Jesus. 2 Corinthians 10:5.
Fill your mind and heart with whatever is lovely – Minimize watching, reading, or browsing things that don’t help you fall more in love with Jesus. Phillippians 4:8.
