Take Action
“He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap.” Ecclesiastes 11:4
There’s a time to be cautious, and a time to throw caution to the wind. The challenge is knowing the difference, and that requires discernment.
If you’re waiting for perfect conditions to seize an opportunity, you’ll find yourself hesitating forever. The Bible says, *“He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap”* Ecclesiastes 11:4. In reality, more often than not, the only thing standing between you and the fulfillment of your dream is an excuse: “I’m too busy… I don’t have enough money… I’m unqualified… I’m not ready yet… I have too many problems.” The truth is that no one is ever truly “ready.”
Even Jesus, just before performing His first miracle, showed a hint of hesitation: *“… My time has not yet come”* John 2:4. But His mother, with a heart full of love, persuaded Him to step out in faith and act!
Mark Burnett, the TV producer behind hit shows like *Survivor* and *The Apprentice*, writes in his book *Jump In!* about his journey to success. He shares: *“Nothing will ever be perfect, and nothing can be totally planned. The best you can hope for is to be about half certain of your plan and know that you and the team you’ve assembled are willing to work hard enough to overcome the inevitable problems as they arrive.”* This philosophy echoes the wisdom of Ecclesiastes 11:4 — sometimes, you have to act even when things aren’t perfect.
So, stop “observing the wind” and “regarding the clouds.” After you’ve prayed, prepared, and planned, it’s time to trust God and take action. The perfect conditions may never come, but with faith and effort, you’ll find that God can use your willingness to move forward, even when things are uncertain.
