The Call To Serve
“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.” – John 13:14-15
In the quiet moments before His crucifixion, Jesus knelt to wash His disciples’ feet, an act of humility and love. The King of glory did what only servants did in those days. He did so to teach us that greatness in God’s kingdom is found not in position or power, but in service.
We often look for the visible signs of value: titles, applause, recognition. But like the quote: “What is essential is invisible to the eye”, true greatness often goes unseen. It’s in the quiet acts of kindness, the silent prayers for others, and the willingness to do the lowly tasks in love.
To serve is to be like Christ. It’s how we reflect His heart. Whether it’s encouraging someone, listening with empathy, or simply showing up when others don’t, these are sacred acts.
God’s Word reminds us:
“You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.” – Galatians 5:13
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for showing us what true love looks like. Teach me to serve with humility and joy. Let me see beyond myself and use my freedom to lift others. May my life reflect You in every act of kindness. Amen.
