Perfectly Timed
“So when He heard that Lazarus was sick, He stayed where He was two more days.” John 11:6
To our human minds, delay often feels like denial. When Jesus heard that His dear friend Lazarus was sick, it would have made sense for Him to rush to Bethany. But instead, He stayed two more days.
Why? Was He indifferent? No. The Bible tells us He loved Lazarus and his sisters. And yet, He waited!
This shows us something profound: Jesus’ love doesn’t always move at our speed. His love isn’t less because He delays, it’s deeper, wiser, and eternal in its purpose.
In that delay, something greater was unfolding. God’s glory was revealed.
Lazarus’ resurrection would become one of Jesus’ most powerful signs, revealing His authority over death and pointing ahead to His own resurrection.
God’s timing may confuse us, but it is never careless. When He seems late, He is often preparing something far greater than what we expected.
You may be in a season where it feels like Jesus is “staying two more days”—m, delaying when you need Him now. Don’t lose heart. Delay is not abandonment.
Sometimes the waiting is where the deepest work happens, in you and through you.
Lord, teach me to trust Your timing, even when it doesn’t make sense. Help me believe that You are never late, just perfectly aligned with a greater purpose. Let my waiting become worship, and my delay become testimony. Amen.
