Persistence In Prayer
One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up. Luke 18:1
How many times must you pray the same prayer asking God to do the same thing before He hears you? Once, twice, or every day until you get what you are asking for?
There are times when something bothers you and you pray about it and then nothing seems to happen so you pray again, and again. And after a while you may just give up entirely, thinking you don’t have the right words or that “This may work for others but not for me!”
Anticipating that this would be one of the issues of concern for us, Jesus told the story about the widow and the unrighteous Judge in Luke 18.
Jesus prefaced the story saying that the disciples “…ought always to pray and not lose heart” Luke 18:1.
And unlike the widow, we do not come to an unrighteous judge but rather to a loving father.
The Bible clearly states in Hebrews 4:16 that we can come boldly to the throne of our gracious God, where we can receive his mercy, and find grace to help us when we need it most.
Therefore, since our prayer is based on the relationship of a child with the father as Galatians 4 explains, we can choose to trust our loving father to answer us with exactly what is best for us and at exactly the right time too.
“But as for me, I will watch expectantly for the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me.” Micah 7:7
