Emmanuel
“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Emmanuel” (which means “God with us”). Matthew 1:23.
God has come near. He stepped into time, into skin, into pain, and into our everyday reality in the most personal, present, and powerful way.
He is with us in the ordinary. In the quiet moments when no one is watching, in every part of our day, even when waiting in traffic, answering emails, taking walks. He is present. You don’t need a spotlight or a platform for God to draw near. Emmanuel means His presence fills even the most overlooked spaces.
He is with us in the storms. When life is confusing and the ground beneath feels unsteady, Emmanuel is not watching from a distance, He is in the boat with you. His presence doesn’t always remove the storm, but it gives you peace in the middle of it.
He is with us in the fire. Just like He stood with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the furnace, He stands with us in affliction. The heat may rise, but it will not destroy you. Emmanuel turns the flames into testimonies of endurance and deliverance.
He is with us always. This is the unchanging promise of Jesus, “Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). No season, no failure, no silence can cancel His presence. Emmanuel means God is closer than your breath, and more faithful than your doubts.
Walk with this assurance that whatever you’re facing, you’re not facing it alone. Emmanuel, God with us, is still His name. And He is still with you.
Lord Jesus, thank You for being Emmanuel. Thank You for stepping into my world and staying with me through it all. Help me to live aware of Your nearness, in my joy, in my fear, and in my waiting. I rest in the promise that I am never alone. Amen.
