From Esek to Sitnah to Rehoboth
“Then they dug another well, but they quarreled over that one also; so he named it Sitnah. He moved on from there and dug another well, and no one quarreled over it. He named it Rehoboth, saying, ‘Now the Lord has given us room and we will flourish in the land.’” Genesis 26:21–22
Isaac’s journey through Esek, Sitnah, and finally to Rehoboth is a powerful picture of the believer’s walk through conflict, resistance, and ultimately into divine space and purpose.
Esek means contention. It was the place where Isaac faced resistance. He had done the hard work of digging a well, but others claimed it. It can feel like life sometimes, when your efforts and progress are questioned, and your peace disturbed.
Sitnah means ppposition or hostility. It was the second attempt, and once again, strife met him there. There are seasons when the opposition feels relentless, where every step forward feels blocked by resistance that isn’t even your fault.
But Isaac didn’t stop. He moved on. He didn’t pitch his tent in conflict. He kept going in faith.
Then came Rehoboth. *“The Lord has made room for us, and we will flourish in the land.” Rehoboth is a reward of perseverance, the fruit of faith, and the place of divine expansion. It is where your obedience meets God’s open door.
Remember, contention and opposition do not mean God is absent Often, they are part of our Journey to Rehoboth!
