Is there No God In Israel?
“Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going off to consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron?” 2 Kings 1:3
How easy it is to forget the power, presence, and provision of the Living God when life presses hard on us. When fear rises or answers delay, our hearts are tempted to look elsewhere, to people, to systems, to foreign solutions, or to things that glitter but cannot truly save.
This was the case with King Ahaziah. Instead of turning to the God of Israel, he sent messengers to consult the pagan god of Ekron. God’s question through Elijah was piercing then, and still is today: “Is there no God in Israel? Why do you seek help where there is none?
Is there no balm in Gilead (Jeremiah 8:22)? Is there no healing in His name, no comfort in His Spirit, no provision in His hand?
Is there no help for Jeshurun?
Has God forgotten how to be gracious? Has His arm grown short?
The truth is: He is still Jehovah-Jireh, our Provider.
He is still the God who sees, who heals, who delivers, and who answers.
When we run elsewhere first or look to the arm of flesh, we dishonor His sufficiency and question His love.
Let your heart return today. Let your first instinct be to look up, not around. Let your dependence be on the One who never fails.
Lord, forgive me for the times I have looked to the arm of flesh. You are the God of Israel, my God, my strength, and my source. Help me trust You more deeply and seek You first, always. Amen.
