Why Go To Ekron?
“Is there no God in Israel to inquire of His word?” 2 Kings 1:6.
When King Ahaziah was injured and uncertain of his fate, he bypassed the Living God and sent for answers from Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron. This was more than poor judgment, it was a heart issue. It revealed misplaced trust.
God’s response was clear: “Is there no God in Israel?”
We often face the same test today. When life gets hard, when answer to prayer delays, doors close, or confusion clouds our path, where do we turn first? Do we reach for solutions shaped by culture? Do we lean on human strategies, popular opinions, or spiritual shortcuts?
The God of Israel is not silent. He is not absent. He has not abdicated His throne. He is near. He speaks. He leads. He heals. He provides.
There is balm in Gilead.
There is help in Zion.
To bypass Him is to declare Him insufficient. But to seek Him is to honour His name.
Today, check your heart. Where have you been seeking help? Before you call the ‘expert’, open the Word. Before you run to the crowd, kneel before the throne.
Lord, You are my God. Forgive me for the times I’ve looked elsewhere for what only You can give. You are my source, my healer, my wisdom. Teach me to seek You first and trust You fully. Amen
