He Sits With You
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me.” Psalm 23:4
Loneliness isn’t just about being alone, it’s about feeling unseen, untouched, and unimportant. It can strike in a room full of people or in a season where your heart aches for someone to understand. But Scripture reveals a God who doesn’t just watch from afar. He sits with us in the valley.
When Elijah ran to the wilderness, weary and overwhelmed, he cried, “It is enough, Lord. Take my life.” (1 Kings 19:4). That was loneliness, the kind that makes you feel like you don’t matter anymore.
But what did God do?
He didn’t lecture Elijah. He didn’t rebuke him for feeling low. Instead, He sent an angel to touch him, to feed him, to remind him: You are not alone.
God didn’t remove Elijah from the wilderness immediately. He entered it with him.
This is a dimension of God’s presence we often overlook: the God who sits with us in silence, the God who stays when everyone else leaves.
He doesn’t always shout over your sorrow, sometimes, He whispers. He doesn’t always fix it instantly , sometimes, He holds you in it.
And in that holding, you begin to heal.
So, if you feel overlooked, unheard, or disconnected, remember: God is not rushing you out of your loneliness. He is sitting with you in it. Not with pity, but with understanding. Not with impatience, but with presence.
He sees you. He hears you. And He’s not leaving.
Father, thank You for being the God who stays. When loneliness wraps around me like a shadow, remind me that You are near, closer than my pain, stronger than my fears. Sit with me, speak to me, and let me know You are here. Amen.
