Useless Worries
“Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” Matthew 6:27
It is useless to worry, for a short person cannot by any amount of worry make himself an inch taller. Why then should he waste his energy wishing he were an inch taller?
People worry over a lot of things, over circumstances, troubles, losses, and disappointments which come through causes entirely beyond their own control, like difficulties in their environment which they cannot surmount or hard conditions around them which they cannot change.
Why should we worry about these things? Will worrying make matters any better? If our worries don’t change the situation, it only shows the uselessness of worrying, since it helps nothing, and only wastes our strength and affect us in doing our best.
Sometimes these circumstances can even be a blessing if we meet them in the right spirit; they can become stepping-stones lifting our feet upward, and disciplinary experiences that help our growth.
The Bible instructs us that rather than worry, we should pray. So, about that issue causing you anxieties, have you prayed?
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” Philippians 4:6
