A Habit Of Thanksgiving
“My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for He has been mindful of the humble state of His servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me, holy is His name.” Luke 1:46-49
Reading through the book of Exodus in the bible, you will see clearly that the concept of Thanksgiving seemed to escape the early Israelites.
They had been delivered from bondage in Egypt by God’s supernatural power, yet within days, they had apparently forgotten. They began blaming God for delivering them from Egypt so they could die in the desert.
Then God again exerted His mighty power and divided the Red Sea so they could go across safely. And when they became hungry and began to whine again, God sent them fresh manna every morning!
Unfortunately, as they kept going in this cycle of ingratitude, they got wiped out. They never entered their promised land, with the exception of Caleb and Joshua and the children.
2022 is gradually running to a close, and you may feel like things are falling short in your plans, goals, and aspirations, yet, don’t sigh rather rejoice and give God thanks.
Don’t get agitated, Give God thanks.
On the other hand, it could be that you are on a roll, things are falling into place so fast, and you are ‘hitting the mark’ on every project so far. Also, don’t get complacent, Give God thanks.
Choose to lead your emotions by deliberately calling to mind what God has done for you in the past. Surely, He has been faithful.
Psalm 42:4 says, “these things I remember as I pour out my soul… with shouts of joy and thanksgiving.”
Remember, nothing grows in your hands until you give thanks. So choose to focus on what you have and thank God.
