All Glory To God Alone
“Then Aaron took the gold, melted it down, and moulded it into the shape of a calf. When the people saw it, they exclaimed, “O Israel, these are the gods who brought you out of the land of Egypt!” Exodus 32:4
As they left the bondage of Egypt, God gave the Israelites so much favour and made them a terror to the Egyptians, which made them turn over their wealth in gold, silver, and precious stones to the Israelites so much that in one day, they went from poverty to astounding wealth.
Yet, no sooner had they become rich that they turned the wealth into their idol and worshipped it, ascribing their deliverance from Egypt to it.
As ridiculous as this may sound, many times we find ourselves in this position.
We are blessed by God but at unguarded moments these gifts become the object of our devotion as against the Giver of the gift.
For example, do we spend more time around our ‘things’ than with God? Do we remember to acknowledge God and ascribe to him the credit for all the good gifts and good fortune we enjoy?
Let’s ask for the grace to stay humble and truly grateful.
Let’s not turn the gifts – jobs, business, resources, relationships, careers, properties that od has brought our way into our idols.
Let us have a real relationship with God and let’s focus and revere Him as our source always.
Give God all the glory for every benefit and every blessing. May you never say to ‘things’ the like Israelites “These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.”
“For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.” Romans 11:36
