Allegiance To God
“When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.” Matthew 1:24-25
Let’s take a look at Brother Joseph, having obeyed and accepted to keep Mary, let’s imagine for a moment that his parents called and asked; “how come Mary is pregnant?”
Where and how does he begin to explain what is happening? Well, maybe the parents understand. After all, he has been a good boy all along and they trust him.
What about his friends and relatives, the synagogue-community?
Questions begin to rain in torrents:
What did you do? Did you do it? Why can’t you wait? Are you sure you are the father of that baby?
Imagine if he was the youth leader or a choir member? How will they perceive him?
We can only imagine how lonely the path of destiny may have been for him.
In Matthew 7:13-14, Jesus said, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
Then he (Jesus) said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. Luke 9:23
The truth is that all the dealings you will have with God cannot all be explained to others. Many will never get to see what you see.
Sometimes, the steps God will ask you to take will not be logical or explainable. You will have to bear the burden and all that may come with it.
Your allegiance and obedience must first be to the one who called you.
You will have your own Elizabeth experience too. That person or a few people that may share the same burden or understand what you are going through. People like Prophetess Anna and Simeon. Like 2:28-32
What has God told you to do?
Even if only a handful understands, if you are married hopefully your spouse will, go ahead and do it.
Stop waiting for people’s approval.
Do you think I speak this strongly in order to manipulate crowds? Or curry favour with God? Or get popular applause? If my goal was popularity, I wouldn’t bother being Christ’s slave. Galatians 1:10
