At The Scent Of Water
“For there is hope for a tree: if it is cut down, it will sprout again, and its shoots will not cease. Though its root grows old in the earth, and its stump dies in the soil, yet at the scent of water it will bud and put out branches like a young plant.” Job 14:7–9
The tree may be reduced to a stump. Its roots may feel dry. Its glory days may seem long gone. Yet, at the mere scent of water, it stirs with life. Not even a deluge, just a scent is enough to awaken what God has preserved in its depths.
So it is with you. You may feel like you’ve lost ground, missed seasons, or been reduced to less than what you once were. But the breath of God’s Spirit, like the scent of water, has the power to awaken new growth within you. He restores dreams, revives purpose, and renews strength, not because of what you feel, but because of who He is.
You are not too far gone. The story is not over.
Hope is not a fantasy; it is a seed deep within you, waiting for living water. And Jesus is that water, always near, always reaching, always able.
What areas of your life feel like a dead stump? Offer them to God today. Let His living water stir hope again.
Lord, thank You for my dry places come alive. Breathe over me again. Let my life bud, grow, and thrive according to Your mercy. Amen.
