Can God Really?
“They spoke against God; they said, ‘Can God really spread a table in the wilderness?’” Psalm 78:19.
In Psalm 78, we see a painful contrast: the mighty acts of a miracle-working God set against the faithless doubts of His people.
Israel had seen God’s wonders firsthand, plagues in Egypt, the parting of the Red Sea, water from a rock, manna from heaven. Yet in the wilderness, when hunger struck again, their hearts wavered. They grumbled, “Can God really spread a table in the wilderness?”
It’s a question of doubt, cloaked in despair. It’s a question many of us whisper when life gets hard, when provision feels delayed, when answers are silent, when hope is thin.
But the wilderness an avenue where God shows off His glory.
Yes, He can spread a table in the wilderness. He can make water gush from rocks. He can rain bread from heaven. He can feed thousands with five loaves and calm storms with a word. The wilderness is not a barrier for God, it is a backdrop for His awesome power.
The Warning: Israel’s mistake wasn’t just questioning God’s ability, it was forgetting His history of faithfulness. They let their present discomfort blind them to past miracles.
The Call: Don’t let the wilderness rewrite your understanding of God. Don’t let your current struggle cancel your memory of God’s power. The God who delivered you before is the same God today.
Maybe you have been asking, “Can God really…?”
Instead, declare: “Yes, my God can!”
God doesn’t need perfect conditions to do perfect miracles. Even in the wilderness, He spreads a table.
Yes, God Can!
Lord, forgive me for the times I doubted Your power in the wilderness of my life. Remind me of Your past faithfulness and stir up a bold, expectant faith. You are the God who provides, performs wonders, and never fails. I trust You even here. Amen.
