Choose To Keep Believing
“Except for Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun, you shall by no means enter the land which I swore I would make you dwell in.” Numbers 14:30
God made the promise to Abraham in Genesis 15: 18-21, that his descendants will inherit the promised land. The promise was not made lightly, for towards the fulfilment God rescued all of them by a mighty hand from Egypt.
However, only two adults – Joshua and Caleb eventually entered into the promised land.
What distinguished Joshua and Caleb? They had a “different spirit” by refusing to doubt God. They chose to believe God and trust him irrespective of circumstances.
The great test for Joshua and Caleb involved the godly courage to face massive giants in battle. They had learned and believed in the miraculous power of God to deliver, protect, and provide for His chosen. And Caleb, because of his great faith, was able to maintain his youthfulness even at the age of 85. (Joshua 14:10-12)
On the way to the promised land, challenges came, and for every believer, challenges will come, and we will need to make a choice if we will continue to believe God.
As has just been said: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.” Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the desert? And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief” Hebrews 3:15-19
We have the example of Joshua and Caleb to follow, whose spirit was different, whose hearts were whole, and whose faith was built on the witness of God’s repeated demonstration of His miraculous power. They knew they could afford to trust Him with all they had, and we can too.
The Promised Land is waiting for only those who will choose to keep believing in God.
