Even In The Ordinary, He Is.
“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” 28:20.
When we hear “God with us,” we often think of miracles, divine rescues, or supernatural signs. But there’s a quieter, deeper dimension to Emmanuel: God with us in the ordinary.
He is not only the God of burning bushes and parted seas. He’s the God of morning routines, quiet kitchens, long commutes, and silent tears. He walks with us not only in crisis, but in the mundane.
Think of Jesus, God incarnate, spending 30 years not preaching, but living. Eating meals, learning carpentry, sweeping sawdust. Emmanuel did not just come to rescue us. He came to be with us, in everything.
In Luke 24, the risen Christ walked unrecognized beside two grieving disciples on the road to Emmaus. He listened. He explained. He broke bread. And only then did they realize: He had been with them the whole time.
This is the gift of God-With-Us, because He doesn’t just appear in the fire; He walks in the waiting. He’s not just present in the spotlight, but in the shadows. He is not a distant deity, He is a present companion.
Whatever season you are in, monotony, sorrow, joy, or confusion, remember this, You are not alone. You don’t have to feel Him to trust He’s there.
Emmanuel is not just a name for Christmas. It is a truth for every moment.
Lord, help me see You in the ordinary. Remind me that You are not far, but near, even in silence, in routine, in stillness. Thank You for being God with me always. Amen.
