Freedom In Christ
“Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you that everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.” John 8:34
Some people tend to look at Christians with pity because they cannot do the worldly things they do. They pride themselves on being free. Free to do as they like.
You hear words like, “Oh, I forgot! You can’t do ‘this’, or You are a Christian and you are not free to do that, but I’m so glad I’m free to do what I want.” These people talk while they enjoy their freedoms – which they call liberty!
But they do not imagine that they are the slaves, because the Bible says whoever commits sin is a slave to that sin.
Everyone is a servant to some master, the only difference is in the master, and there is nothing wrong with having a master if that master is worthy of us and able to lead us to glory.
The Christian has the Lord Jesus Christ as Master; while he who lives in sin has sin as master.
The Lord Jesus is a blessed Master because serving Him lifts us up to eternal glory, but having sin as master only leads to death and destruction.
Sinful habits lead to addictions, sickness, death and eventual eternal destruction.
We need to always be on our guard against little sins of thoughts or habits which are like fine threads at first, but they become strong chains at last if we allow them to be wrapped around our souls.
“You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.” Romans 6:18
