Hallowed Be Thy Name
“Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of this your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight in revering your name…”
Nehemiah 1:11
Nehemiah’s prayer in this verse reveals a powerful truth about approaching God: reverence for His name is the key to answered prayer.
Nehemiah acknowledges God’s sovereignty and humbly asks for His attention, not based on his own merit but because of his deep delight in honoring the Lord.
When we approach God in prayer, our heart posture matters.
Nehemiah teaches us that reverence—a profound respect for who God is—opens the door to intimacy with Him.
Prayer is not just about presenting our needs; it’s about aligning our hearts with God’s character and purposes.
God delights in the prayers of His children who revere His name. To “revere” Him means to stand in awe of His holiness, goodness, and power. This doesn’t mean we need to be perfect, but it does mean our prayers should flow from a place of faith, humility, and a desire to glorify Him.
When we pray with reverence and trust, we can be confident that God hears us. He is attentive to the cries of those who love Him and seek His will. Like Nehemiah, let us approach God with awe and expectation, knowing that He listens to the prayers of His servants.
