Heman And Jeduthun
“With them were Heman and Jeduthun and the rest of those chosen and designated by name to give thanks to the Lord, “for his love endures forever.” 1 Chronicles 16:41
I am not sure you remember Heman and Jeduthun. They are not famous like your favourite Bible character yet they are very important people. In the worship choirs of King David, they were appointed to give thanks.
1 Chronicles 25:6 says of Jeduthun and Heman that they “were under the authority of the king,” and they were designated by name to give thanks. That was their job and giving thanks is our job too. We’re under the authority of a King who commands:
Be thankful… Offer to God thanksgiving… Come before His presence with thanksgiving… Enter into His gates with thanksgiving… In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. – Colossians 3:15; Psalm 50:14; Psalm 95:2; Psalm 100:4; Thessalonians 5:18.
Thanksgiving creates an atmosphere for angels to work. When God receives our thanks, it prepares the way for God’s salvation.
Psalms 50:23 says, “Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; And to him who orders his conduct aright I will show the salvation of God.” Thanksgiving to God always come before Deliverance.
It’s time to change your attitude from one of helplessness, grumbling and complaining to one of joy, hope, and faith! Develop the habit of declaring “Praise the Lord“
This is one of God’s commands for healthy living because giving thanks is not only appropriate but therapeutic. It’s hard to be both thankful and, at the same time, grumpy, cantankerous, critical, or ill-tempered.
So, be a Heman, be a Jeduthun. You too have been appointed by the King to praise His name and to thank Him every day. Praise the Lord!
