Hope In Place Of Despair
“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
Shortly after the death and resurrection of Jesus, John wrote, “The light continues to shine in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it” John 1:5. This means that Christ had come as a light in a dark world, and with His coming, man had a new purpose in living, a new hope to brighten the day.
The darkness of moral and spiritual gloom that confronts the world today is greater than at any period in history with weapons more powerful than any the world has ever seen. There are enough hydrogen bombs stockpiled to blow the entire world into chaos several times over. More than ever before, we need help.
Psalm 121:2 says, “My help cometh from the Lord who made heaven and earth”. Psalm 121:2
How do we respond to the darkness around? Do we curse it or wish it away or do we light a candle, even a small one and drive back the darkness? Jesus said, “We are the light of the world…”Matthew 5:14
A person who sits and curses the darkness only adds to his misery; the answer is to do something, no matter how insignificant it may be, to drive back the darkness!
The Bible says, “…that you may prove yourselves to be blameless and guileless, innocent and uncontaminated, children of God without blemish in the midst of a [morally] crooked and [spiritually] perverted generation, among whom you are seen as bright lights [beacons shining out clearly] in the world [of darkness]” Philippians 2:15
Remember, the smallest light is greater than the most powerful darkness.
