Jedidiah
“The Lord loved him; and because the Lord loved him, he sent word through Nathan the prophet to name him Jedidiah.” 2 Samuel 12:24-25
There is something powerful about being named by God. Though his parents named him Solomon, “God called him Jedidiah, meaning “Beloved of the Lord.”
This wasn’t just a name; it was a divine declaration of identity, grace, and restoration.
Solomon was born into a complicated legacy. His mother, Bathsheba, had been involved in one of David’s darkest failures, yet out of that brokenness, God brought new life, love, and purpose.
Solomon’s birth was a turning point. And God’s act of naming him Jedidiah was a reminder: grace covers what guilt once stained.
To be called Jedidiah is to be marked by God’s love, not by your past. It’s a name that whispers, “You are loved, not because of who you are or what you’ve done, but because of who God is.”
God sees beyond circumstances and calls forth His purpose in our lives, even when we feel least deserving.
Are you carrying shame, regret, or a label that doesn’t reflect God’s heart for you? Remember: God names you, not your past. And His name for you is Beloved.
God’s love defines you more than your history ever can. You are His Jedidiah.
Father, thank You for calling me Your beloved. Even in the messiness of life, You speak purpose, love, and identity over me. Help me live today knowing I am Jedidiah, deeply loved by You. Amen.
