Living Faith
Luke 18:1 “One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they need to always pray and never give up!”
Jesus didn’t elaborate on what injustice the widow suffered only that she was determined to get justice. Maybe her son was arrested on false charges, or her pension was being withheld or someone was encroaching on her property, whatever it was, she wouldn’t take no for an answer and the judge knew it. The judge knew she would persist until she got justice!
Does the heavenly Judge know that about you? How persistent are you in asking God for the breakthrough or miracle you seek?
Are you desperate enough to pray through the night?
How many times are you willing to remind him of his promise? Will you keep asking, seeking and knocking? Or you are distracted already and have accepted disappointment!
The persistent widow’s methodology was unusual. Jesus said she refused to wait for the usual protocol but went to the personal residence of the judge and this reveals something about the nature of God. He didn’t care about protocols. If He did, Jesus would have chosen the Pharisees as His disciples but those aren’t who Jesus honored.
Jesus honored the prostitute who gate-crashed a party at a Pharisee’s home to anoint His feet.
Jesus honored the tax collector who climbed a tree just to get a glimpse of Him.
Jesus honored the four friends who cut a hole in someone’s ceiling to help their friend.
And in this parable, Jesus honored the persistent widow who pestered a Judge because she wouldn’t stop knocking.
The common factor in each of these stories is their unrelenting faith. People took desperate measures to get to God, and God honored them for it. God has not changed.
He is still honoring the spiritually persistent. He is still honoring those who defy protocol with their bold prayers and those who pray with audacity and tenacity.
And this woman is selected by Jesus as the gold standard when it comes to praying hard. Her unrelenting persistence got her the answer she desired. You too can get your answer, keep your faith alive, keep knocking on heavens door and your answer will definitely come.
Luke 18:5 “…because this widow keeps pestering me, I will give her justice. Then she will stop wearing me out with her perpetual requests”
