Never Doubt God’s Goodness
Shall we accept good from God and not trouble?” Job 2:10
Job’s story is a hard one. He lost everything, children, wealth, health, and yet, even in unimaginable pain, he refused to curse God.
His response to his wife’s plea to “curse God and die” was this: “Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” This was not denial. This was trust!
The revelation here is that Job teaches us that God’s goodness is not proven by our circumstances but by His nature. When everything is going well, it’s easy to say, “God is good.” But when things fall apart, the enemy whispers, “Is He really?” In those moments, we must anchor ourselves in the truth: God’s character does not change with our situation.
Even when Job didn’t understand what God was doing, he still believed that God was just and good. God allowed the testing, not to destroy Job, but to reveal and refine something deeper in him. And in the end, Job saw God more clearly and intimately than ever before. Job 42:5.
Don’t define God’s goodness by what He gives or withholds. Even in silence, suffering, or loss, God remains good. He may allow pain, but never pointlessly. He may delay, but never deserts. His heart toward you is still love.
Father, help me to never doubt Your goodness, especially when life is painful. Anchor my heart in who You are, not just in what I see. Give me Job’s faith to trust Your heart when I cannot trace Your hand. In Jesus’ name, amen.
