No Need To Doubt
“John, calling to himself two of his disciples, sent them to Jesus, saying, “Are you the one who is coming, or should we look for another?” – Luke 7:19
John did not doubt the Messiahship of Jesus that day beside the Jordan River when the heavens opened and the Spirit of God descended upon Jesus and the Father’s voice was heard in loving approval.
He also didn’t doubt in any of the bright days of glorious miracles that followed.
It was only when it grew dark for John himself that he doubted!
That is how it is with many of us. When everything is bright and sunny, it is easy to proclaim that we have surely found Christ, and believe that He is our friend, and our hearts are full of joy. We do not doubt His love.
But when troubles come and things go in ways we do not expect, then doubts begin to set in and we begin to question, “If God really loves me, then why am I suffering so much and He hasn’t come to my rescue?
When the questions start, it is easy to slink down into the Slough of Despondency and lose hope.
The true way for us to go is to never doubt Jesus. Even in our trials, failures, and disappointments; Jesus remains the same loving friend as when there was not a speck of trouble for us in all the world.
It’s our opportunity to dig into His word, to reassure ourselves from His word and to let Him know that we trust Him still.
“Yet as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last, He will take His stand on the earth.” Job 19:25
