On Fire For God
“Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:41.
Temptation is a daily reality for every believer. It is not a sign of weakness, it is proof that you are still in the fight. Even Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, was led into the wilderness to be tempted. Luke 4:1-2.
The enemy is always looking for a moment of spiritual tiredness, emotional weariness, or isolation to strike.
But God calls you to watch and pray. Watching means being alert, discerning the subtle compromises, recognizing the slow cooling of spiritual fervor, and refusing to let your guard down.
Praying fuels your spirit. It keeps the fire burning, your heart tender, and your ears attuned to God’s voice.
Spiritual fervency is cultivated. You need daily time in the Word, honest communion with God, and fellowship with believers who stir your hunger. Without it, you’ll grow cold. And when you’re cold, temptation finds easy access.
But when your spirit is burning with love for God, sin loses its appeal. Holiness becomes beautiful. Prayer becomes a lifeline, not a duty. Worship becomes your weapon.
3 keys to staying fervent in the face of temptation:
1. Guard your secret place. That’s where strength is renewed.
2. Starve the flesh. What you feed grows. what you starve dies.
3. Stay in community. Isolation is the devil’s playground.
Lord, help me, keep my spirit burning with love for You, even in a world full of distraction and temptation. Amen.
