Our Heavenly Father
“A father to the fatherless, a defender of the widows, is God in his holy dwelling.” Psalm 68:5
In the Bible, God presents Himself to us as a Father because we all understand who a father is. Even those who don’t have earthly fathers that treated them well still have an understanding of what a good father should be.
It’s an understanding that comes naturally to us, planted in our hearts by God. The need to be loved, cherished, protected, valued and provided for is innate in us and an earthly father will usually meet those needs. But even if he doesn’t, God will.
In Luke 11:2, Jesus taught His followers to address God as Father and throughout the Bible, God describes His love for us as that of a caring parent. “And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the LORD Almighty” 2 Corinthians 6:18.
And there is a special place in God’s heart for the orphans, fatherless, and those with absent parents, that’s why the Bible says, “Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me.” Psalm 27:20.
Let your heart overflow in worship knowing that you have a father in God.
