Renew Your Heart
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23-24
God loves it when we come to Him in humility and invite Him to search and know our hearts.
He already knows what is in our hearts, but when we come to Him and ask Him to search, we show that we don’t just want to know what’s in us but want to remove anything that should not be in there, to begin with.
Most of us don’t like having our thoughts tested to see if they contain offensive ways, but we should learn to love it.
The Lord is gracious, loving, and gentle. He will reveal anything that is not of Him and help us remove it. He is not going to be angry; He will be full of joy that we have come to Him in humility, seeking to be more like Him.
If we don’t know about or confront what is in our hearts, it will never go away. Instead, it will fester and grow into bitterness and unforgiveness, drawing us further away from the Lord.
Let’s make it a habit in to invite the Lord to search our hearts and find if there are any offensive ways in us. When He reveals them, we must be quick to repent and move on. Only then can our hearts be continually renewed.
