Rest as Warfare
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14.
Rest doesn’t always mean stopping activity, sometimes, it’s a spiritual strategy.
In God’s Kingdom, rest is not retreat, it’s resistance. It’s the refusal to live driven by fear, pressure, or performance. Rest is a statement of faith declaring: “God is in control, not me.”
At the Red Sea, Israel stood trapped, Pharaoh behind them, water before them. Panic rose. But God didn’t give them battle plans. He gave them a command: “Be still.”
Why?
Because the victory wouldn’t come through their strength, but His intervention.
Stillness was warfare.
Resting in God’s ability was how they would move forward.
Too often, we equate rest with inactivity. But in the Spirit, rest is a weapon. It breaks anxiety’s grip. It silences the voice of the accuser. It says, “I don’t have to force it, I trust God’s timing.”
David said, “He makes me lie down…” (Psalm 23:2). Sometimes rest must be commanded, because we resist it. But it’s in resting that we remember who the Shepherd is, and it’s not us.
Rest isn’t a delay in purpose; it’s preparation for it.
Lord, teach me the discipline of stillness. Help me to stop striving and trust You fully. I choose the rest that comes from knowing You fight for me. In You, I am safe. Amen.
