Seeking God
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” – Matthew 6:33
When we think of Elijah calling down fire from heaven or Elisha parting the Jordan River, it’s easy to admire the dramatic displays of power. But behind every miracle was a man fully yielded to God. Their spiritual power wasn’t a product of ambition, it was a result of deep relationship, humility, and obedience.
Elijah stood boldly before kings because he knelt often before God. He didn’t chase influence; he chased God’s voice. When he was tired and afraid, God met him not with rebuke but with gentle presence and renewed direction. 1 Kings 19:11–13.
Elisha, before ever doing a miracle, spent years faithfully serving Elijah. He poured water on the prophet’s hands. 2 Kings 3:11, and learned the ways of God through obedience and proximity. When the time came, he didn’t ask for riches or fame, he asked for a double portion of Elijah’s spirit because he wanted to carry God’s power to continue God’s mission.
We too can desire spiritual strength, wisdom, or breakthrough, yet the path is the same: seek God, not power. Serve before you lead. Obey before you ask. Walk with God daily, and His Spirit will empower you in time.
Let your greatest prayer be: “Lord, help me to know You more.”
Prayer
Father, I desire to walk closely with You like Elijah and Elisha did. Help me to seek You first, to obey You fully, and to desire Your presence above all else. Empower me not for my glory, but for Your purposes. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
