Study The Word
“Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.” 1 Peter 2:2
In the book titled ‘Knowing God’, J. I. Parker spoke about four believers in Christ whom he called “beavers for the Bible.” Not all of them were trained scholars, but each one exercised great care to know God by digging into the Scriptures like a beaver or squirrel digs in and gnaws away at a tree.
He further noted that knowing God through Bible study is not just for scholars, especially because a simple Bible reader who is full of the Holy Spirit will develop a far deeper relationship with God than a more learned scholar who is content with just being theologically correct.
Yet, not all who study the Bible do so with humble hearts or to get to know the Lord Jesus better and become more like Him.
In Jesus’ day, some read the Old Testament Scriptures and yet they missed the very One the Bible spoke of.
Jesus said, “You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life” (John 5:39–40).
Now is the time to return to the Bible with a humble heart, and with a heart yearning for God.
Don’t let the many distractions of our day cause you to give up on studying the Scriptures!
Prayerfully and carefully gnaw away at Scriptures in ways that open your eyes and hearts to see and love Jesus for He is the One revealed in it.
