The Beauty of Sonship
“The Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’”* Romans 8:15
Sonship is not merely a status, it is a relationship wrapped in love, secured by grace, and clothed in belonging!
One of the most vivid pictures of its beauty is found in the story of the prodigal son (Luke 15).
The son, broken and ashamed, had rehearsed a speech to return as a servant. But the Father ran, not to scold, but to restore. He didn’t wait for an explanation; He wrapped him in a robe, placed a ring on his finger, sandals on his feet, and threw a celebration.
Why?
Because his son had come home.
That is the beauty of sonship.
God doesn’t tolerate us, He embraces us. We are not employees trying to earn favor. We are sons and daughters, welcomed in our weakness, restored in our return, and loved without condition.
Sonship means we don’t earn our way back, we’re brought back by love. The robe covers shame. The ring restores authority. The sandals remind us we are not beggars. We are home.
Even when we run, His heart never changes. His arms remain open. The Spirit in us constantly cries out “Abba,” not out of fear, but out of the security of love.
Father, thank You for calling me Your child. Thank You for running toward me when I fall, for covering my shame, and restoring my place. Help me to live each day secure in Your love, confident in my identity as Yours. Amen.
