The Day Of The Lord
“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.” 2 Peter 3:10
On November 4, 1958, a B-47 bomber from Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas caught fire and crashed during takeoff, killing one crew member and injuring two others. The plane was carrying a full load of fuel and a nuclear weapon, and crashed from an altitude of 1,500 feet, creating a crater 35 feet wide and 6 feet deep.
The impact caused the fuel and conventional high explosives in the nuclear weapon to explode, but the nuclear capsule was found intact because it had been separated from the explosives for safety during transport.
The crash site was on private property that was being used for wheat cultivation at the time, but is now used for cattle grazing.
In 2011, the US Air Force removed any remaining uranium waste from the crash site.
Though weapons of mass destruction are plentiful today, there won’t be a “Day of the Lord” until the appointed time when a new Heaven will be ushered in.
“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.” – 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
