The Gift of Belonging
“what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” 1 John 3:1
Before we took our first breath, before we could earn or achieve anything, He chose us Ephesians 1:4-5. This truth dismantles our performance-based religion.
We don’t work to become children, we work because we are children. The question lingers: Do we live from this reality, or do we still scramble for worth in lesser things?
What’s even more astonishing is how we get to approach Him. The Spirit within us doesn’t whisper formal prayers, He cries “Abba!” Romans 8:15
This is the intimate language of family, the kind of trust a child has when running into a parent’s arms.
Religion keeps God at a distance, but sonship pulls us close. Are we living like distant acquaintances when we’ve been invited to the family table?
Then there’s the inheritance. In Christ, we’re not just saved from something, we’re saved into everything that belongs to Him Romans 8:17.
The authority He walks in, the provision He enjoys, the purpose He fulfills, it’s all ours by grace. Yet how often do we live like spiritual paupers when the vaults of heaven stand open?
Day by day, this sonship reshapes us. John tells us that when Christ appears, “we shall be like Him” 1 John 3:2.
But even now, the family resemblance grows. Every act of surrender, every moment of trust, every choice to love, these are the Spirit’s chisel, carving Christ’s image into our lives.
Let this truth settle deep: You are known. You are wanted. You belong. The same voice that declared Jesus to be the Beloved Son now whispers over you. And that changes everything.
“For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus” Galatians 3:26.
