The God of Glory
‘None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.’ 1 Corinthians 2:8
Over 500 times the Bible refers to the glory of God. God is called the “Father of glory” (Ephesians 1:17), Jesus is called the “Lord of glory” and the Holy Spirit is called the “Spirit of glory.”
So what is the glory of God? The glory of God is the beauty of His spirit. It is not an aesthetic beauty or a material beauty, but it is the beauty that emanates from His character, from all that He is. His glory is manifested in all of His attributes together and it never passes away. His glory is eternal!
Man on the other hand also has glory, fleeting though it is, yet, whatever glory a man has, is a reflection of God’s glory because He is the source.
Isaiah 43:7 says God created us for His glory. Also 2 Corinthians 4:7 says, “And we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.”
1 Peter 1:24 explains that “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall,”
So to God alone belongs all the glory, and understanding who He is is a never-ending adventure that will greatly transform our lives and our outlook.
David exclaimed in Psalm19:1 “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” John Glenn, who made two trips into space, said, “To look out at this kind of creation and not believe in God is to me impossible.”
Therefore, to give glory to anyone or anything else is not wise. This is the foolishness of idolatry. Only the eternal God, to whom belongs all the glory, deserves our worship.
“And we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 3:18
We need to increasingly seek to know more of God and to know Him is to know His glory. As we behold His glory, His Spirit transforms us. Today, choose to worship the God of All Glory with all that He has enabled you to be and have.
“Be exalted above the heavens, O God; Let Your glory be above all the earth.” Psalm 57:5
