The Good Shepherd
“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father, and I lay down my life for the sheep.” John 10:14–15
Jesus speaks of Himself as the Good Shepherd, a leader not driven by duty alone, but by deep, personal love for His people. He knows each of us intimately, and He willingly gave His life to protect and save us. This isn’t just a metaphor. It’s the heart of the gospel: a Savior who doesn’t abandon His flock in danger, but walks into it on their behalf.
In a world where love is often conditional and self-preserving, Christ’s love is radical. It is sacrificial, unwavering, and personal. He didn’t lay down His life reluctantly. He chose the cross with you in mind.
Reflect on this: the Creator of the universe knows your name, understands your fears, and laid down His life for you. That’s not distant or abstract love, it is real, costly, and transforming.
God proved His love on the cross. When Christ hung and bled and died, it was God saying to the world, ‘I love you.’”
“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13
Let this truth shape your every day. Give thanks, walk closely with the Shepherd, and rest in the security of His love.
