The Power of the Blood
“This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you.” Luke 22:20
When Jesus sat with His disciples at the Last Supper, He spoke of a new covenant, sealed with His own blood. That moment was symbolic for it marked a divine shift. The old system of law, ritual sacrifices, and distance from God was giving way to a new relationship built on grace, intimacy, and direct access to the Father.
1. The Blood Speaks of Forgiveness.
Under the old covenant, repeated animal sacrifices were required for sin, yet Hebrews 10:4 reminds us that “the blood of bulls and goats can never take away sins.” But Jesus, the spotless Lamb of God, shed His blood once for all. (Hebrews 10:10). In His blood, our sin is cleansed. (1 John 1:7). This is full and final forgiveness.
2. The Blood Brings Us Near.
“But now in Christ Jesus, you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.” Ephesians 2:13
No longer do we need a high priest to access God’s presence. Through Christ’s blood, we are brought near. We now walk in the kind of intimacy with God that the Old Testament saints longed for.
*3. The Blood Seals a Better Covenant*
Hebrews 8:6 calls Jesus the “mediator of a better covenant, established on better promises.”
This covenant isn’t built on our perfection but on Christ’s. It doesn’t just prescribe rules, it offers relationship. God writes His laws on our hearts and calls us His own.
4. The Blood Gives Victory.
“They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” Revelation 12:11
The blood conquers. It gives us victory over sin, guilt, shame, death, and even the accusations of the enemy.
You no longer have to strive for God’s approval. He has already accepted you through the blood of the new covenant. That blood invites you into a life of freedom, forgiveness, closeness, and unshakable victory.
Lord Jesus, thank You for the blood of the new covenant. Thank You that I am forgiven, accepted, and made new in You. Help me walk daily in the fullness of what Your blood has secured for me. Amen.
