The Price He Paid
“From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, ‘Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?’ (which means ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’)” Matthew 27:45-46
On, Good Friday, we mark the moment Jesus bore the full weight of humanity’s sin. The midday darkness reflected more than a natural event—it was the shadow of separation from God that He endured for us.
Jesus’ cry from the cross wasn’t just pain—it was the agony of divine abandonment. He, who knew no sin, became sin for our sake. In that moment, He was forsaken so we’d never have to be.
This was love in its rawest, most sacrificial form. Jesus chose the cross, chose the suffering, and chose us—paying the highest price for our redemption.
As we remember the cross, may we never lose sight of what it cost—and may we live in response to that love.
