The Privileges of Sonship
“But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12
There is no greater identity, no deeper belonging, than to be called a child of God. John 1:12 reminds us that sonship is not earned, it is given. It is the privilege extended to all who believe in Jesus Christ.
To be a son or daughter of God is to be welcomed into a family where you are fully known and fully loved. It means we no longer approach God as strangers, beggars, or slaves, but as beloved children who have access to His heart. We don’t work for His acceptance; we live from it.
This sonship redefines everything. It silences the voice of fear and striving, and replaces it with the cry, “Abba, Father.”
We are not tolerated, we are cherished. We are not distant, we are drawn near. And in this relationship, we discover the freedom to walk boldly, knowing we are heirs with Christ, secure in the Father’s love.
Even in discipline, the heart of the Father is tender. He shapes us not as a harsh master but as a loving Dad, committed to our growth.
The world may define us by what we do, but heaven defines us by whose we are.
So walk in the confidence of one who belongs. You are no longer outside. You are home.
Father, thank You for calling me Your child. Help me to live deeply aware of this truth, that I am Yours, not by merit, but by grace. Let my heart rest in Your love, and may my life reflect the beauty and boldness of being Yours. Amen.
