The Sign of the Fleece
“Then Gideon said to God, ‘If You will save Israel by my hand as You have promised, look, I will place a wool fleece on the threshing floor…’” Judges 6:36–37
Gideon was not bold. He was not fearless. In fact, when God called him a “mighty man of valor,” he was hiding. Yet God, full of patience and power, chose Gideon to lead Israel to victory.
But Gideon needed assurance. Not once, but twice, he asked for a sign, a fleece wet with dew while the ground stayed dry, then the reverse. And God did it, both times. Not because He had to, but because He is a God who meets us in our weakness and reveals His power through it.
These were not magic tricks; they were wonders, personal, timely, and purposeful. God did not rebuke Gideon for asking. Instead, He lovingly confirmed His word and made it clear: “I am with you.”
The wonders of God aren’t always loud or dramatic. Sometimes, they are quiet affirmations that reach the deepest parts of our doubt and fear. They remind us that God’s power is real, His patience is great, and His promises are sure.
Have you ever needed confirmation from God?
He doesn’t despise your questions. Ask with a humble heart, and He will respond in the way that builds your faith.
Lord, thank You for being patient with my uncertainty. Like Gideon, I need Your assurance sometimes. Show me Your wonders. Draw me close to you and strengthen my trust in You. Amen.
