The Way Of Forgiveness
“Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.” 2 Corinthians 2:7
According to a study performed in 2010 by the Fetzer Institute: 67% of Americans agree that the US population is composed of generally forgiving people, but 58% also agree that there are instances where people should never be forgiven. The unforgivable instances are murder (41%), abuse or sexual crimes (26%), or any intentionally committed crime (22%), suggesting that most Americans focus on crimes against an individual as being unforgiveable. Additionally, 60% of Americans believe that forgiving someone would first depend on the offender apologizing and making changes.
Forgiveness is a difficult act of love, but it demonstrates God’s love for us.
Let the Lord know you have forgiven those who have hurt you and then let them know that you forgive them.
“Forgiveness does not change the past, but it does enlarge the future.” – Paul Boese
“Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” – Colossians 3:13
