Thirsty
“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” Psalm 42:1–2.
Several things in life promise satisfaction, but at the end of the day, nothing else satisfies like God. Not success, not people, not even the blessings we once prayed for. Deep within, there’s a longing, a hunger no earthly thing can fill. That longing is for God.
David in Psalm 42 wasn’t asking for things, he was crying out for God’s presence. His soul panted for God like a deer in a dry land searching desperately for water. It isnot a casual desire; it’s desperation. It’s the soul saying, “I need You more than I need answers. I need You more than comfort. I need You”.
True intimacy with God begins when we realize He is not just useful, He is necessary and vital. It’s when we say, “God, if I don’t have You, I have nothing, even if I have everything else.”
This longing is worship. It’s surrender. It’s a heart that has tasted and seen that the Lord is good, and now can’t live without Him.
Are you thirsty? Are you longing for more than what life is offering? That hunger is holy. Don’t silence it, let it lead you into God’s presence. He responds to hunger. He fills the thirsty. He draws near to those who cry for Him.
Lord, my soul longs for You. Not just for relief or direction, but for You. Quench this thirst in me with Your presence. You are the only one who satisfies. Amen.
