Thou Shall Rejoice
“…my brethren, rejoice in the Lord!…” Philippians 3:1
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” Philippians 4:4
Interestingly, the Bible did not suggest that we rejoice; it commands us to do so!
I will say it again: Rejoice! Philippians 4:4
It’s time to make up your mind to be a joyful Christian, not occasionally, but consistently.
You have to be a person who regularly experiences the fullness of joy that Christ promised.
Most of all, your experience and expression should be authentic, real, and contagious.
However, God won’t force the expression of joy on you. Much like a host throwing a party, who invites you to the event in full hope that you will absolutely enjoy yourself, He provides all that is needed for a good time — the ambiance, the music, the atmosphere, the food, the people, yet, your attitude and actions determine how much you enjoy the event.
So, how do you consistently have on this garment of joy?
According to the Bible, how can it be cultivated, and what can you do to activate joy?
In order to tap into the joy supply Christ has secured for you, you will need discipline.
Joy is not merely an emotion felt within; it is a discipline we must cultivate and practice.
The Bible gives us the key; Joy Reads!
Reading the Scripture can be an incredible source of joy. The psalmist apparently tapped into this source of joy often:
The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. Psalm 19:8
I rejoice in your word like one who discovers a great treasure. Psalm 119:162
So, you too, get into the word of God and your joy will know no bounds.
‘With joy, you will draw water from the wells of salvation.’ Isaiah 12:3
