Unwavering Faith
“But they were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.” Hebrews 11:16
Hebrews 11 remind us of the faith-filled perspective of those who sought a heavenly home.
These faithful individuals went through life with a profound trust in God’s promises. Though they did not all receive the full fulfillment of those promises during their earthly lives, they held on to them with unwavering faith. They recognized that this world was not their ultimate home but saw the promises from a distance, embracing their identity as foreigners and strangers.
By acknowledging their status as pilgrims, they demonstrated a longing for a country of their own, a heavenly country prepared by God.
Instead of clinging to the past or the earthly realm, they looked forward to a better, eternal dwelling place.
Their faith enabled them to keep their eyes fixed on the heavenly promises, even in the midst of challenges and trials.
Let us shift our focus from temporary earthly matters and set our hearts on the eternal promises of God. Like those in Hebrews 11, may we live with a faith that recognizes the transient nature of this world and eagerly anticipates the heavenly home that awaits us. And, may our lives reflect the values and priorities of citizens of that heavenly country. Amen.
