What’s In A Name?
“You shall call His name Jesus… They shall call His name Immanuel. Matthew 1:21, Matthew 1:23
God changed the name of Abram to Abraham because He wanted him to see himself as the father of nations. Genesis 17:5.
Jesus changed Simon’s name to Cephas (Peter) because he saw the potential for him to be a “rock.” John 1:42.
Joseph’s name was changed to Barnabas which means “Son of Encouragement” because he was always encouraging the early believers. Acts 4:36.
Look at the names given to our Lord:
For to us a child is born, to us, a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders, and he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
The mission of Christ is in His name: Jesus – Saviour!
Names matter and the one name that is above all other names is Jesus Christ!
“Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name above all names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2: 9-11
