When Love Feels Distant
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?… No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” Romans 8:35, 37
There are seasons when life feels like a contradiction to God’s promises, when loss, stress, unanswered prayers, or heartbreak make it hard to feel His love. In those moments, your faith may whisper, “God loves me,” but your emotions scream, “Then why am I suffering?”
You are not alone.
Even Jesus cried out in Matthew 27:46, Mark 15:34, “My God, my God, why have You forsaken Me?” Yet in that same moment, He was fulfilling the greatest expression of God’s love; salvation through the cross.
God’s love is not proven by comfort or ease. It’s proven by the cross. And just because it hurts now doesn’t mean He is absent. He can love you and still allow hard things that are leading to better things.
That relationship you lost? It may have been his mercy speaking for you.
The job you lost? It may have been protection.
That silence? It may be preparation. That struggle? It could be stretching your faith so you are ready for what is next.
God doesn’t promise a life without trouble, but He promises His love will never leave you in it.
Faith says: “Even if I don’t feel it now, God still loves me. He is still working. He will never forsake me.”
Lord, in the middle of my pain and confusion, remind me that Your love never changes. Help me to trust that You are working all things for my good, even when I don’t see it. Anchor me in Your love. Amen.
