Why Not God First?
“When trouble comes, where do you run? When life confuses you, who do you consult first?”
These are soul-searching questions we rarely ask out loud, but they are revealed in our reflexes, when pain strikes, when the future is uncertain, or when provision seems delayed.
In 2 Kings 1, King Ahaziah fell through the lattice of his upper room and became seriously injured. But instead of calling on the Lord, he sent messengers to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron.
God’s response through Elijah was direct and convicting: “Is it because there is no God in Israel…?”
It’s not that Ahaziah didn’t know about God, it’s that he didn’t trust Him enough to seek Him first.
The same question echoes to us today:
Is there no God in your life?
Is there no power in His Word?
Is there no healing in His presence?
Is there no wisdom in His voice?
Why do we chase after people, platforms, or temporary solutions before we seek the One who holds eternity?
When you bypass God, you are not just seeking answers elsewhere, you are saying, “God is not enough for this.”
But He is.
He is the God of the answer and the process. The One who gives wisdom generously, the One who meets you in the valley, the One who opens doors no man can shut.
Return to seeking God first. Not as a last resort, but as your first instinct. Let Him lead, let Him speak, let Him provide.
Lord, forgive me for the times I’ve looked to lesser things before turning to You. You are my source, my answer, and my hope. Teach me to seek You first, not just in words, but in how I respond to life. Be my first thought, my first call, my first trust. Amen.
